Day 12. La Brea Tar Pits and San Juan Capistrano

We drove through LA and went to the La Brea Tar Pits. ( There are pics for my second grade teacher friends to use with The Best Vacation Ever.) La Brea was small but very interesting. It is largest excavation source. The one pic of the display cases (with yellow background) contains only skulls of dire wolves that have been excavated at La Brea. There is one pic of bubbling tar in one of the pits. There are also some photos of an excavation in progress. After La Brea we got back on PCH and headed south for San Juan Capistrano. In our travels we have been amazed at how many fast food establishments are around. We opted to forego that option, however. We had an excellent meal at Cedar Creek Inn. They had the best calamari! I had the seafood linguine and Tony had the fish and chips; both dishes had a bit of southwestern flair. Tony wanted to stop at Venice Beach but I forgot to plug it into the GPS so we will attempt to do that on the way back up to see Anthony again. Tomorrow we will visit the local historic mission and then continue south to San Diego.
